Throughout history, from prehistoric cave painters to Michaelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso, DeKooning, Diebenkorn, Lucian Freud .... artists have tried to capture the essence of the human form. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced artist, these life drawing sessions allow you to develop or refine your life drawing skills.

With a per-session limit of 12 attendees, these intimate life drawing sessions allow you to draw the figure at your own pace. Class will be broken down in several 4 min. poses for warm up followed by 25min poses. Participants that want to paint or explore mixed media are welcome. BYO art supplies.

This guided open studio is intended for students who have some experience with clay and are capable of working independently with one-on-one guidance from the instructor as needed. Good for hand-builders as well as throwers, this is the class for people who have an idea of what they would like to make and would like guidance on techniques to get there.

This is a survey course for people who want an overview of pottery making techniques. Both hand building and wheel throwing methods will be taught and practiced. A variety of decorating, glazing and firing processes will be explored. This is a beginners class, but intermediate students are welcome too.

Basic wheel throwing ceramic tools (kits available for $20):
- needle tool
- rubber ribs
- fettling knife
- wood tool
- old shirt or apron you can get dirty
- sketchbook

Ukulele Building

The workshop is intended for beginners; however the experienced woodworker will enjoy the challenge. Everyone will be making a tenor ukulele. Each of the makers can add a different embellishment to the instrument to make it truly their own.

Sam has been teaching ukulele building locally for some time. Those that have taken this workshop have been more than excited about what they were able to create and a few have found a new calling.

8 students maximum in class.

it!! A fresh, step by step approach to working quickly
in oils. Students will be painting outside on prepared
wooden panels as they learn the techniques for
capturing in paint the beauty that surrounds us. We
will be painting in various locations around Kona as a
small group (great for the timid of heart!) as we
explore the "alla prima" approach (capturing the scene
in one sitting) to this style of painting.

Figure Painting in Oils

This course will explore the tonal construction of the figure for both drawing and painting. Light and shadow relationships, edge control and the basic science of color and proportion control will also be explored. Students will apply techniques while working from the model. Poses from 3 to 6 hours.
