Why draw from life? Throughout history, from prehistoric cave painters to Michaelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci. Picasso, DeKooning, Diebenkorn, Lucian Freud .... artists have tried to capture the essence of the human form. This life drawing class is open to artists of all genres and students of all ages interested in exploring their personal approach to figure drawing in a stimulating, informal setting. Every Wednesday night, motivated models provide a series of poses ranging from 2-45 minutes. Advice on materials, techniques, approaches to drawing and individual critique will be available.
A Little Floral Extravagance

Scott Seymour, floral designer will share his keen eye and talent with students as they learn how to make their own floral arrangements for any special occasion.
The 2 class allows students to create their own arrangements with his direction and guidance. At the end of each class, students will receive a critique on their piece as well as learning how to critique the work of others.
SUPPLIES TO BRING: 2-3 containers (with wide opening for oasis foam), clippers and scissors, additional flowers as accent fillers, spray bottle, old rags or towels and sketchbook or notebook.
Guided Open Studio

This guided open studio is intended for students who have some experience with clay and are capable of working independently with one-on-one guidance from the instructor as needed. Good for hand-builders as well as throwers, this is the class for people who have an idea of what they would like to make and would like guidance on techniques to get there.

Hina'i Poepoe - Basket Covered Gourds

A basket of 'ie'ie is woven around a gourd for aesthetics and protection over time. Wide gourds were used to store kapa and other valuables. Taller ones were used to store food and water. In this class we will learn the basic techniques of weaving.
MATERIALS:
Cured Gourds and fiber will be provided.

4 or 5 gallon bucket

CERAMICS: A Taste of the Potter's Wheel

Come and learn the basic techniques of the potter's wheel. This class is designed for people who have not worked with clay as well as those who "took that one pottery class back in high school". If you have some experience with throwing but still need to work on centering skills and the other basic skills necessary to work on the wheel, this class is the one to take.
Beginners Ukulele Lessons

Beginning with the history of Ukulele, students will start by learning the 10 basic parts that make up the ukulele in Olelo Hawai'i (in the Hawaiian language), various strumming techniques and basic cords. As students become more comfortable with the ukulele they will have freedom to create an original mele (song). Students must provide their own ukulele, note book and pen for the class.

The workshop is intended for beginners; however the experienced woodworker will enjoy the challenge. Everyone will be making a tenor ukulele. Each of the makers can add a different embellishment to the instrument to make it truly their own.

Students who participate in open print studio sessions are required to have taken at least one printmaking class at DMAC and have to be acquainted and understand studio rules. Proper use of tool, papers, inks and clean up procedures must be respected. Studio assistance and individual critique will be available.
