"The wonders of natural world and the theories of science are the source materials for my art. The work I make expresses my own musings about the nature and structure of the universe from the Big Bang and the creation of gravity to the biochemistry of cells and the strategies of seeds. My most recent work explores natural patterns that are present in vastly different scales, demonstrating the connections between the larger cosmos, the human realm and the microscopic universe." - Ana England- Artist Statement

PRINTMAKING & MIXED MEDIA: Collaborative Bookmaking
~With Sally Schuh & Liz Roth
Event Type: Presentation
Cost: Free!
Sally Schuh has a sculpture degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a degree in printmaking from the University of Washington Seattle. She has received numerous grants including the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, 4Culture, and Artist Trust and has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center, PONCHO Artist-in-Residence at Pratt Fine Arts, and the Centrum Foundation.
" I am currently working on visual interpretations of Gertrude Stein's writing through prints, and works on paper. Gertrude Stein used repetition to make auditory pattern out of sounds and oral pattern out of words - altering how her writing is heard and how it is spoken. I use this repetition to create a visual translation of what Stein created in literary form. " - from an artist statement by Sally Schuh
Liz Roth is an artist who depicts social concerns in a humorous way. Her most recent painting installation, America 101, has taken her to all 50 states to create paintings emphasizing environmental losses as a result of consumerism.
In 2003, The Kamiyama Artist in Residence Program selected Roth to create art installations and public art works dealing with environmental issues in Kamiyama, Japan. In Fall 2008, she will return to Kamiyama to participate in a symposium honoring the program and its participants.
During the past several years Roth has been an artist in residence at the Wrangell Mountain Center (in Alaska), Jentel Artist Foundation (in Wyoming), the Awagami Paper Factory (in Japan), the Kamiyama (Japan) Artists in Residence program, and the Vermont Studio Center.
Roth has received numerous prestigious painting grants including the Oklahoma Visual Artist's Coalition Grant Art 365 (2007-8), the Wisconsin Arts Board Individual Artist Fellowship (2001), and the national Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation grant for painting (2003). She has also received a number of grants from Oklahoma State University, where she is an Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting.
