HOLIDAY HOURS 2009 WRAP UP
Come help us celebrate a successful 2009!
Donkey Mill Art Center will be open for viewing 10:00am - 4pm Tuesday through Saturday, but will be closed during Christmas Holiday (Dec 25th - 26th), and closed during New Year Holiday (Jan 1st - 2nd). Please make note of the Holiday schedule changes.
On December 27th, do not miss the opportunity to learn the Japanese tradition of preparing for the New Year. Construct a Kadomatsu, made of bamboo and pine branches and is placed at the entrance to homes to greet the New Year. Prepare the Japanese delicacy Mochi, a rice cake delicacy served on New Year's Day to symbolize the many blessings that the family will receive in the New Year. Guests will make a Kadomatsu for their home, prepare mochi and taste the delicate cakes while talking story with new and old friends.
Our Spring 2010 Class Schedule will be posted at the beginning of January.

SILENT AUCTION WAS GREAT SUCCESS!
An elegant crowd filled the DMAC art gallery for the closing of the Mono-thon: Silent Auction in support of HFAC's ongoing art and cultural programs. Close to 77 local participants contributed more than 150 monotype prints for this event. This year's fundraiser grossed over $7,500 throughout the three-week silent auction and exhibition.
The Mon-thon is a perfect example of why HFAC is at the forefront of the 'three golden points': 1) Develop yourself by committing to ongoing learning and growth. 2) Develop others by sharing ideas, helping others to grow and bringing respect and new opportunities for learning. 3) Develop the organization with ideas that benefit individuals and the whole organization. This would not have been possible without the generous donations from the 77 participants and the enthusiastic bids and activity from our community. Also thank you to the volunteers, Peaberry and Gallete for the delicious pupus, DJ Unit-E for the groovy tunes, Alex Logan Kamanawa for the Hawaiian ceremonial chant and DMAC staff members whose tireless efforts helped make this event such a success. Congratulations to the buyers that became first time art collectors and enjoy the life changing experience of having original work in your home. Mahalo nui loa to you all!

Please join us, mingle while viewing new works born right here in this community, enjoying complimentary drinks and refreshments to warm up for the final biddings of the night!

MONOTHON OPENS TUESDAY
The Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture is holding a silent auction and exhibition of nearly 150 monotype prints starting on November 3rd and culminating with final bidding and a closing reception on November 20th. All activities will be held at the Donkey Mill Art Center.
"Mono-thon: Silent Auction and Exhibition" is a seven month long grass roots fundraising project started by artist, Hiroki Morinoue, to promote and educate the community about hand-pulled prints. Morinoue taught and assisted many of the new faces that filled the Donkey Mill Art Center print studio once a week, free of charge, and who, in exchange, donated some of their best prints for the auction and exhibition.
The conventional approach to printmaking culminates in the creation of a set of identical prints. By contrast monotype prints are characterized by the fact that no two monotype prints are exactly alike. The "mono" in monotype indicates the uniqueness of each resulting print. Although it is the most primitive method of printing, monotype prints carry a unique translucency that creates a quality quite different from watercolors, woodcut prints or etchings. Also the creation of monotype prints allows for an unusual degree of spontaneity because the artist can include aspects of straight printmaking, painting and drawing.
The exhibition and silent auction will run from November 3rd through the 20th at the Donkey Mill Art Center. Gallery hours are 10:00am through 4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday. All prints will start at a reasonable level to stimulate active bidding.
The Mono-thon Soft Opening will be held from 6:00pm until 9:00pm on Tuesday, November 3rd. The DMAC gallery will be open for bids at that time. The Final Bidding and Closing Reception will be held on Friday, November 20th between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
Donkey Mill Art Center is part of the Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture and is located at 78-6670 Mamalahoa Hwy. in Holualoa.
