ART EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

The Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture is pleased to offer
Art Education for Children and Youth.

These courses are designed to use art as a tool for:
  • Discovering the self
  • Understanding relationships through collaboration and communication
  • Solving problems using critical thinking skills
The processes will help students learn to apply creativity to their daily lives and gain self confidence. They will increase their ability to:
  • Express themselves
  • Learn patience
  • Understand consequences of their actions
  • Respect differences

INDEPENDENT STUDY, WITH ART PROJECTS FOR TEENS
January 22-May 20, 2008 (Tuesdays)
  • Time: 3-5 pm
  • Tuition: $75 (with HFAC family membership or above)
  • Level: Middle & High School students
  • Enrollment: Limited to 14

Students will explore various art processes and media on a project based curriculum. Through projects such as mixed media collage, silk screening, and character creations, student will be introduced to the basic techniques of various 2D and 3D media, such as drawing, painting and ceramics. However, the emphasis will always be on the process, not the product. Students are encouraged to explore conceptual ideas behind artwork in relationships to discovering about self, family and community, while instructors works as a team to facilitate the growth of creativity in positive learning environment.


THE "HOW TO" OF ART MAKING
January 23-May 14, 2008 (Wednesdays)
  • Time: 3-5 pm
  • Tuition: $125 (family member & above), includes art supplies
  • Level: Grades K - 5, Grade 6 and up
  • Enrollment: Limited to 14

Children who have never had the opportunity to express themselves through the process of art making, will discover new ways of communicating their thoughts and ideas.

Children involved in previous after-school or in-school programs and/or Summer Art Experiences will have an opportunity to continue their exploration of the art making process at an intermediate level. Instructors will present and create projects that will challenge and support your childŐs area of interest.

Students will explore various art processes in both 2 and 3- dimensional media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and mixed media; however, the emphasis will always be on the process, not the product. Artist instructors will also integrate concepts from "An Essential Arts Tool Kit" which includes observing, patterning and performing.

These programs are partially funded by the Laila Art Fund, Bill Healy Fund and West Hawaii Fund.
