ART EDUCATION FOR YOUTH ARCHIVES
WAUKE PROJECT:
"Pepa a Hawai'i" (Paper of Hawaii)

September 11 to December 11 (Tuesdays)
  • Time: 3-5 pm
  • Tuition: $75 (with HFAC membership) includes art supplies
  • Age groups: Middle/High School students

Students will work in an independent study atmosphere under the guidance/mentorship of Gerald Lucena who has worked with Marilyn Wold, fiber artist.

This is a work study program where students will learn all about Wauke and other native plants for papermaking; from planting, caring for, harvesting, cooking, and preparation to make quality Pepa a Hawai'i (paper of Hawai'i). This will be an entrepreneurial experience for our youth. They will also work with artists who will help them to expand their understanding in making art with and on paper.

Through this program, the students will develop good working habits, responsibility, confidence, and independence to collaborate and cooperate with others as they coordinate activities and manage the program in a businesslike manner.
