The Donkey Mill is a creative environment for both artists and non-artists alike. It is a place where people of all ages and experience levels can meet and share ideas, where they are encouraged to explore new forms of expression and to work in collaboration as a means to understanding themselves and others. |

Throughout the year, HFAC introduces established visiting artists to the community with weekend workshops, slide presentations and lectures, as well as hosting exhibitions by faculty, and art exchange projects. |

WAUKE PROJECT Wauke Project, "Pepa a Hawai'i" is a work-study program where students learn about "wauke" (the Hawaiian mulberry plant) and other native plants for papermaking, from planting, harvesting, and processing, to making quality "Pepa a Hawai'i" (Paper of Hawaii'). This gives them an opportunity to develop their management skills while learning the many varieties of "art on paper". |

INDEPENDENT STUDY/PUBLIC ART PROJECT BY YOUTH Independent Study/Public Art Project by Youth is set up as a program for students to work with established artists from the community on projects that will deepen their technical skills as well as develop their work habits and responsibilities. As participants coordinate activities to sustain these workshops, they develop independence through collaboration and cooperation with others. |

SUMMER ART EXPERIENCES In a five week program, children develop self-awareness and become motivated individuals with an understanding of the importance of planning and working for a positive future for themselves and their communities. |

COMMUNITY OUTREACH The Holualoa Foundation for Arts and Culture is dedicated to bringing art education to local public schools, and participates in joint efforts with other local non-profit organizations to present lectures, demonstrations, workshops and conferences. |

SPRING & FALL ARTS FESTIVALS Twice a year, HFAC holds open studios at the Donkey Mill Art Center for people of all ages to explore different disciplines in art making, including drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, silk-screening, shibori, indigo dying, weaving, raku firing, papermaking, origami, lauhala weaving and more. All proceeds from these events benefit the Art Education for Youth programs. |
